Mauritius getaway Day-3 (Casela park)

Hey friends,

I am quite excited to share my Casela park experience with you. This was the best day among all days I spent in Mauritius. Casela, the world of adventures ( That is what it is known as) quite deserve its name. It is totally a world of adventures. It is a perfect spot for all age groups. I am sure no one will leave disappointed from this beautiful place.

You can enlarge to see what all they have to offer.

The park is spread over 14 hectares of land and offer so many activities including animal interaction programs, jungle safari, quad bike and much more. As all activities are scheduled at specific times, we have to choose accordingly what we want to do. img_3001

I started from Trou d’Eau Douce at 8:30 and reached Casela around 10. It was a 57 km drive. As I have already scheduled mountain adventures for the afternoon, morning I decided to go for jungle safari. The whole park was beautifully designed and maintained. The first sight as soon as I entered was a beautiful fish pond.

img_3062

When I walked further I came across peacocks and huge tortoises maintained in natural settings. The whole area is quite calm, neat and clean. I was lucky enough to come across a dancing peacock too on my way to bus stop for jungle safari.img_3295

The safari bus took me through that area of the park where animals are kept in their natural environment. Deer, Rhinos and ostriches were freely roaming around there. They were not scared to come near the bus too. I felt as if they were giving us a good view of them. It was a great experience for me as I have never seen an ostrich this close and not inside a cage.

The Safari bus took us next to tiger and lion zone. Tall observation points are built near the fence where we can get a good view of them. There were activities like walk with the lions which I couldn’t do as I have already scheduled that same time for mountain adventures.

By the time I was done with jungle safari, It was almost afternoon. After lunch I went to the pick up point for mountain kingdom. I had already booked for Canyon swing, Nepalese bridge and Zip line. They provided me with the safety harness and helmet and took through a jungle to the platform for canyon swing. I was so excited when I saw the view. The platform was built on a mountain top, and the swing was  between two mountains with a stream flowing below. It was a breathtaking view and an adrenaline rush experience, jumping from top of a mountain and swinging to and fro on a rope above the stream.

Next was the Nepalese bridge. Narrow wooden planks arranged in a line connecting the two mountains, suspended high above tropical lush green forests, twisting and turning when you keep your foot on it. I felt as if I was walking in air. 350 m Nepalese bridge was quite a thrilling experience.

After this exhilarating air walk I have been taken for Zip line where I got a chance to enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the environment. There was 5 Zip lines with 5 different views. Though zip lining was less thrilling as compared to the first two, the view was quite soothing and stunning.

The staff were sweet, pleasant and encouraging. Safety was taken utmost care along with that they created a pleasant and happy environment. They all became my good friends by the time I finished my activities.

My pickup back from mountain kingdom was ready by the time I collected my photos. It was hard to say good bye to those amazing people I met and Casela park. It was totally an exciting day. I had my excitement and smile still on till I reached my hotel room.  A wonderful experience you should never miss if you are planning your vacation in Mauritius.

Mauritius getaway day-2 (Ile Aux Cerfs)

Hey friends,

Here I am back to share with you my experiences in Mauritius on the second day.  I have been checking out the popular spots in Mauritius and the top in the list was Ile Aux Cerfs island. So I decided to explore this island before other spots. I booked for a whole day tour which started at 10:30 in the morning. There were 2 options to reach the Island. The speedboat which is a faster and less time consuming option and the next one is a Catamaran. As I already did a Catamaran sunset cruise, I opted for speedboat transfer so that I will get more time to explore the Island and indulge in some water sports.

img_2581

The pickup pickup point was just 1 Kilometer from Trou d’Eau douce. It took approximately 20 minutes by speedboat to reach Ile Aux Cerfs from Trou d’Eau Douce. Swiftly moving boat tearing apart the water current through the turquoise sea with mountains and greenery on either side was quite a nice experience. Ile Aux cerfs like a queen surrounded by the sea filled with corals. The sea water was so clear, one can see the corals underneath.

img_2638

Ile Aux cerfs is famous for all water sports. Being a person who love adventures automatically I went in search of activities list. Considering the time limit, I decided to do tube riding, Undersea walk and parasailing.

img_2820

I was taken to a speed boat in which an inflated chair (tube) was connected in the aft. Briefing was given by the friendly guide about the hand signals to be used if feeling uncomfortable and speed controls. The tube was moving to and fro, sometimes shifting sideways according to the movement of the speed boat. Few times I felt that the tube is going to flip upside down. It was a nice experience.

img_2666

After tube ride, I was taken in another speedboat to a platform set in the sea for parasailing. A speed boat pulled the person along with the parachute to the sea where one could experience the aerial view of the breathtaking island. From the sky, the whole place looked like a canvas painting.

img_2732

I have been informed to reach the main beach at 12 to visit a waterfall nearby. The speedboat to go there was already waiting for me by the time I reached the shore. The waterfall is situated around 15 minutes ride from Aux Cerfs. While nearing the waterfall there was an unbelievable transformation of landscape. It felt like a diversion from sea to a stream surrounded by forests on both sides. Crystal clear water, scattered rocks and the magnificent waterfall stole my heart. The beauty of the place is beyond what I can describe with words.

img_2889

img_2929

After visiting the falls we went back to the main Island where lunch was arranged as part of the package. After having tummy full of tropical delicacies, I spend some time exploring the Island. The last activity for the day was undersea walk. I was taken to a platform in the sea where they have all equipment required for activity. I have been provided with a helmet connected to oxygen cylinder and asked to climb down by stairs to the sea and release the hold and land on legs on the sea bed. It was an amazing experience to walk on the sea bed along with the fishes and surrounded by corals.

img_6629

By the time I finished the activity it was already 3:30 and the boat was ready to drop me back to shore. I was already missing Aux Cerfs by the time I reached shore. A stunning Island, fascinating experience and an awesome day thus came to an end.

Mauritius getaway Day-1

Hey friends,

I have been searching for a vacation spot since 3 months where I can celebrate my birthday and quench my thirst of travel and adventure. You will be wondering why Mauritius? Being an Indian, Visa procedures to visit 80% of the countries around the world includes complicated procedures. Being a Cabin crew, I have another limitation in submitting my passport for visa procedures. Search for those countries where Indians get Visa on Arrival ended up in shortlisting Thailand, Indonesia, Srilanka, Vietnam and Mauritius. Having already applied for 10 days leave beforehand and the first four countries are nearby to India and can be covered in 4-5 days, I finally decided to choose Mauritius. So the country was finalized and I started my research on the places and activities I can cover during my stay.

img_2454

My flight was at 6:50 in the morning from Bombay and landed at Mauritius airport located at Plain Magnien at 11:15 in the morning. As already arranged my hotel cab was waiting for me. My stay was arranged at Trou d’Eau Douce which is located 43 kilometers from airport. The journey from airport to hotel was a feast to my eyes. Mauritius was more than what I expected. She stood with pride abundantly blessed by all picturesque wonders of  nature. Turquoise green sea on one side of the road and tall mountains in the opposite side stood there as if they were competing with each other who is more beautiful. Being absorbed in the scenic beauty en route I din’t realize that it took an hour to reach my hotel.

img_6363

I had already booked for catamaran sunset cruise at 3:30 in the evening at Grand Baie, 41 kilometres from where I stay. I got fresh and rushed through my lunch so that I shouldn’t be late to reach there. I reached 10 mins before the specified time and was transfered in a small raft to the watercraft ‘Calypso’.

img_6535

We were greeted by a spontaneous set of crew and were seated. Once they started sailing they introduced themselves and gave a brief description about the cruise. I chose a spot at the forward edge of the Catamaran to have a better view of lifting the sail. Snacks and drinks were served throughout the cruise.

img_2529

Crew were quiet friendly and cheerful. They were singing, dancing and were putting all their effort to entertain us. It was totally an amazing experience. It was difficult to stand as the waves were trying its level best to shake our watercraft. Our captain was efficiently steering and ensuring smooth sail.

img_2517

Three hours passed like a second and the sky wore an orange shade. After viewing the beautiful sunset, we headed towards the shore. After saying good bye to those amazing people I started my journey back to hotel.  thus my first day in Mauritius met with an end.

Kalba Mangrove Forest

Hey all,

Here I am back with another beautiful destination which is hardly known to tourists, neither displayed in the top attractions near Dubai. Dubai is always known to the world as the land of deserts, sky-kissing buildings, luxurious lifestyle and adrenaline-rush activities and sports. I shared a similar belief until I came across this beautiful Mangrove forest during my search for new destinations in and around Dubai. “A lake and a mangrove forest adjoined in the middle of desert!” This information was quite surprising. I decided to visit the place though the questions like whether the place is worth travelling for more than an hour was running in my mind. Apart from that I couldn’t find much information about the place in Google too.

IMG_0704

Wadi Al Helo Tunnel, Sharjah – Kalba Road

Kalba Mangrove forest is located 116 km from Sharjah. The Sharjah-Kalba road itself is a feast to travel fanatics. The huge mountains and tunnels in between awes anyone who passes by. Empty roads, quiet surroundings , sunny sky and hustles of breeze were our companions throughout the journey. In an hour and half I arrived at my destination, the beautiful Kalba lake sorrounded by Mangroves which was totally a spectacular view in the middle of the desert.IMG_0729

Kalba lake hosts paddle boating and Kayaking during September to May which unfortunately was not available as my visit was during last week of August. One can opt for camping too in the banks of the lake during these months.

IMG_0778

The Mangroves, Kalba.

Though I was disappointed by the non availability of activities over there, I was happy to have a close look at the mangrove trees and explore it and undoubtedly shocked in finding these in the middle of the desert.

IMG_0768

Another interesting fact which I found while examining the rocks over there was the existence of small shell organisms in a cluster on the rocks which I have only seen over the rocks near seas. The beautifully shapes clusters was again a curious sight.

IMG_0766

I started my journey back after an hour, quite happy and contented with my findings about my new destination and with an eagerness to share with you my experience though I was a bit late due to my hectic flight schedules and fatigue. See you all soon with a new destination. Have a great day. 🙂

Cauvery River Rafting…

Coorg in Karnataka state, India is a major tourist destination in south India. She is blessed abundantly by nature in the form of luscious green hills and water sources. This gives her opportunities to host various adventurous activities like river rafting, hiking, trekking, zip-line, rappelling, camping, quad biking and much more. As of now I would like to share with you my River-rafting experience in Cauvery river, Kushalnagar, Coorg.

IMG_0077

Starting point of rafting in Cauvery river

After enrolling our names and finishing necessary formalities we were given our raft and a guide to assist us. As any other activities, before commencing, the guide gave us a briefing which included how to hold the paddles, expected commands to row forward and backward with a demo of it and finally about the risk level of the activity. Our trail was 5 km long. At the starting, around 500 meters, water was still and we rowed freely and was given permission to get out of the raft into the river with life jacket on. When the journey advanced we had to face rough currents and swift waves which added a pinch of adventure into the activity.

IMG_0080

After 1 Km , awaiting us was rapid surfs, narrow passageways, rocks and small waterfalls. At few places we really felt that the raft may go upside down or turn to a side. especially jumping down the waterfall was really an experience. We were holding tightly to the handholds on the sides of the raft and was soaked completely when the raft found its way through these mini falls. It was really exciting and thrilling.

IMG_0076

The Rafting trail

The guide stopped the raft in between for us to click photos and enjoy the scenic beauty of the location. Water gushing through the rocks to form the fall was a breathtaking view. We totally took advantage of the short break to explore the stunning small island formed by the rocks and click photos of us as well as the place.

IMG_0081

It took 2 hours to complete the River-rafting and we came out with the satisfaction of experiencing an exhilarating and exciting activity  which was truly overwhelming. Though I was little concerned about maneuvering as I was doing rafting for the first time, on contrary to my anticipations, it was quite easy under the direction of the skilled guide. The bewitching beauty of River Cauvery added with the adrenaline charged rafting made my  trip an exquisite one.IMG_9762
